“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” Ephesians 4:14. A counterfeit bank note or coin is basically an almost accurate imitation of the original genuine version. There’s always some facet of the counterfeit that shows it up for what it is but this requires close inspection. To the careless self-serving majority they will go along with the flow and accept the counterfeit rather than the original version because it’s easy. The sole purpose for the invention of a counterfeit is to deceive people into accepting it. “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Matthew 24:4-5.
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:11-12. The art of deception is to make people believe something is truth when it isn’t. If someone is clever with ingenuity they’ll make people believe that when a counterfeit is invented the actual original truth doesn’t actually exist. “Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?” Job 11:7. There are truths in the Bible that are hard to be understood which people who aren’t grounded in the truth wrest or twist to their own destruction. “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3:16.
Even though we may not have all the evidence there’s enough available to establish it’s authenticity if we’re willing to accept the truth by faith under the unction of the Holy Spirit. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14.
